The launch of the femtosecond laser technology was an unquestionable milestone in the development of modern medicine. This laser has been successfully implemented in ophthalmology, where it helps during various surgical procedures. Although this technology may still be associated mainly with refractive surgery, it has turned out to have dozens of applications in many different branches of ophthalmology. The femtosecond laser has not only been used in laser vision correction procedures, but also in corneal transplantation, keratoconus treatment and cataract surgery.This article discusses the most important applications, effectiveness and safety of the femtosecond assisted procedures in modern ophthalmic surgery.
