Author Guidelines

 
General information
Lekarz Wojskowy (Military Physician) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published continuously since 1920, currently issued quarterly by the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute in Warsaw.

The journal publishes:
• original articles (experimental and clinical),
• review articles,
• case reports,
• articles in the field of military medicine, history of medicine, and medical law,
• deontological studies,
• communications and reports from scientific meetings and conferences,
• letters to the Editor, book reviews, and literature reviews.

Manuscripts may be submitted in Polish or English. Articles accepted for publication in Polish are translated into English.

Peer review process
All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process.
• each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers,
• time to accept a review invitation: 7 days,
• standard review time: 30 days,
• review time for revised manuscripts: 14 days.

The Editorial Board makes the final decision on acceptance of the manuscript for publication.

Ethical standards
Manuscripts must comply with the principles of research ethics.

In the case of clinical research:
• approval of an appropriate bioethics committee and informed consent of participants must be obtained (in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki).

Authors are required to:
• disclose sources of research funding,
• specify the role of the sponsor in the preparation of the publication,
• submit a conflict of interest statement,
• declare whether and to what extent artificial intelligence (AI) tools were used in the preparation of the manuscript,
• confirm that the manuscript has not been previously published or submitted to another journal.
AI tools cannot be listed as authors of the publication. Authors bear full responsibility for the content of the manuscript, including its reliability, originality, and the proper use of AI tools.

The Editorial Board follows ethical standards in accordance with the guidelines of the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) (https://publicationethics.org) and prevents misconduct such as plagiarism, ghostwriting, and guest authorship.
If third-party materials (e.g. illustrations) are used, authors must obtain appropriate permissions.

Copyright and access to publication
Submission of a manuscript implies:
• transfer of economic copyrights to the publisher – the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute,
• consent to publication in an open access model.

The journal does not charge any fees for submission, processing, or publication of articles.

Submission of manuscripts
Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively via the Editorial System:

Manuscript requirements
Maximum length (including tables, figures, and references):
• original articles – 30 pages,
• review articles – 20 pages,
• case reports – 10 pages,
• history of medicine articles – 20 pages,
• technical/rationalization papers – 15 pages.
Conference abstracts: up to 5 pages.

Text preparation
• format: MS Word
• font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
• line spacing: double
• no paragraph indentation and no blank lines
Structure of the manuscript

Original articles:
• introduction
• aim of the study
• material and methods
• results
• discussion
• conclusions
• references

Case reports:
• introduction
• case description
• discussion
• conclusions
• references

Abbreviations must be defined at first use.

Tables and figures
• indicate placement in the text (e.g. “Table 1”, “Fig. 1”),
• submit as separate files,
• minimum resolution: 300 dpi,
• the number of tables should be limited to the minimum justified by the content.

Author information
Author details must be entered exclusively in the Editorial System:
• full names of authors (maximum 10),
• affiliations,
• corresponding author,
• ORCID number for each author.
These data must not be included in the manuscript file (double-blind review requirement).

Abstract and keywords
• abstracts in Polish and English, maximum 250 words,
• keywords in Polish and English,
• keywords should be written in lowercase,
• the order of keywords must be consistent in both languages.

References
• maximum 35 references,
• arranged in the order of citation in the text,
• citations in the text in square brackets,
• reference list format: number followed by a period, no period at the end of the entry,
• up to 4 authors – list all; more than 4 – first 3 followed by “et al.”

Final remarks
Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal requirements will be returned for correction.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to introduce editorial, linguistic, and stylistic changes as well as abbreviations in the manuscript without altering its substantive meaning. Any significant changes require the author’s approval.

In case of rejection, the author will receive a reasoned editorial decision.
