ABSTRACT
The study presents the factors that can affect the response to drugs at various stages of child’s development, thus determining the effectiveness and safety of pharmacotherapy. Based on the presented developmental changes, methods of calculating doses were established to enable extrapolation of adult dosing to the paediatric population. Moreover, the article demonstrates other potential tools (therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmacogenetics) that may be used to optimise drug dosing in children.
