ABSTRACT
Heavy users are defined as patients who use medical resources to the greatest extent in a healthcare system. It is assumed, that they constitute from approx. 1% to more than ten per cent of the healthcare beneficiary population. Estimation of the number of this type of patients and identification of the most frequent services being consumed by them is crucial for optimal planning and delivery of medical services, including minimizing their ineffective use.
