ABSTRACT
The article describes assessment of helmets and boonie hats among soldiers of the German Africa Corps in 1941 and soldiers of the Polish Military Contingent and United States Armed Forces in Iraq in 2003 in terms of their effectiveness in protection against solar radiation in the aspect of sunstroke prevention. Conclusions. The assessment of helmets safety should be conducted not only for ballistic protection but also for effectiveness of protection against solar radiation and hyperthermia. Boonie hats should be subjected to similar assessment for prevention of heat injuries.
