ABSTRACT
The article deals with the problem of treatment of post- traumatic diaphragmatic hernia in a 56 year-old female. There is no developed standard of conduct in case of a massive loss of the diaphragm. According to current medical knowledge clinical symptoms of diaphragmatic hernia are an indication for surgical treatment. Immediate surgery does not raise any doubts in case of haemorrhage, bowel obstruction or other urgent indications. However, some patients may benefit from postponement of surgical treatment. Nutritional treatment, metabolic and water-electrolyte management as well as developing of a surgical strategy can reduce the risk of complications and mortality.
