ABSTRACT
The gold standard for pituitary adenoma diagnostics is magnetic resonance imaging. In special cases, such as postoperative changes, multiple adenomas or ectopic hormonal activity, this method may be insufficient. Positron emission tomography with 11C‑methionine is a non‑invasive imaging scan, that allows to visualize lesion metabolism. Results of studies from recent years indicate high sensitivity and specificity of this method and its usefulness in identifying the active lesion or differentiating recurrence from iatrogenic changes.
